Tarot Project: Ill-Dignified Hanged Man

The Hanged Man is one of the Major Arcana, and a card I see referenced in Hollywood and literature all the time. Whether it’s serial killers recreating the pose with their victims, or whether its linking the card with Odin hanging from the World Tree (or Jesus hanging from the cross), there’s just something mind-catching about the card.

The elemental attribute of the Hanged Man is water. It is a card that calls for flexibility. It is also a card that calls for sacrifice. Normally, the Hanged Man indicates a period of self-reflection, where action is suspending in order to determine the next move to make. Through current burdens wisdom may be attained.

Inverted, the Hanged Man indicates more of a rut. The querent is not moving forward in life because he fears change. Rather than risk new opportunities, he would rather hold on to what he has. In order to escape from his suspension, the querent needs to take a hard look at his life and possibly make a radical change.

In all honesty, this is a scary card for me. I do sometimes fear change. I just graduated with a masters degree in book publishing. I am looking for employment, but I also don’t want to let go of the job I have right now until I get something else that’s dependable and has better pay. If you’ve been following the blog, you’ll remember that a big life change was predicted earlier in the week. I’m not sure what the change is that the cards are calling for, but they seem insistent that it needs to happen. I’ll have to think about this.

I’ll check in later tonight and let you know how the day goes. I don’t know that anything related to the card will pop up, but I’ll let you know if it does. Have a great day everyone.
